Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes Calls for Continued Unity in State of the County Address

Newton County Chairman Marcello Banes presented several awards during his State of the County address on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.  Pastor Clara Lett, Founder and Executive Director of the Garden of Gethsemane Homeless Shelter, was awarded the "Chairman's Medal."

The Newton Community Magazine's March 2019 featured an article about Pastor Clara Lett and her 25+ years of service to the homeless in Newton and surrounding counties.

The article provides a brief history of how the Rainbow Covenant Ministries' Community Center evolved into The Garden of Gethsemane Homeless Shelter (located at 7133 Turner Lake Circle, Covington, GA) which had the capacity to house up to 82 individuals prior to the October 2020 tornado, which destroyed one of its buildings.
